I just received a call from my neighbor Becky. We talk occasionally so I thought maybe she was calling to see what our plans were for the holidays. Or sometimes she finds interesting things for the kids to look at. Not today. Her call informed me that a guy had stopped by her house and told her that the llamas were in the road. She called me and thankfully my friend Candace was visiting to stay with Caelynn inside while Maggie, James, Rachel and I ran out to see exactly what kind of situation we were getting into. American Hero was standing at the top of the driveway looking down at us. He was in the road and had two cars stopped. Leroy Brown was meandering up to our neighbors across the streets house. Nice! They have tons of pine trees that he might not be found in. I am not sure what I was thinking because I had nothing in my hands to catch them with. Hero could not be coaxed back down without his buddy. He ran down the street. I had James come with me and the girls went on a mission to get Leroy back down the hill. I grabbed halters, leads, grain bucket, grain and a long stick to herd them down the hill. I found the key to the outside gate and we made a plan of action. I got the car out (thinking Hero was long gone down the street) and got as far as the end of the driveway. A guy with a double snow plow had stopped and was directing traffic and helping the kids. I am running with grain and the leads with snow up to my knees. I also have to add that I have garden clogs on. By the time I get to Leroy, Maggie had Hero in the gate. She had grabbed him with her coat and was using the sleeves as a lead. James runs to the side gate to close it so Hero doesn’t run right back out. Maggie coaxes Leroy in the fence with me running behind. I close and lock the gates and breathe. The kids did great. Now WHO left that gate unlocked?
